States are beginning to reopen their economies and restore some semblance of normalcy to society. But men are feeling the economic pinch, consumed with anxiety and uncertainty.
The U.S. unemployment rate is expected to hit 15% or more when numbers are released next week, according to MarketWatch. These are unprecedented numbers since the Bureau of Labor Statistics began calculating unemployment in 1948. Unemployment peaked at 10% in the aftermath of the 2008 recession. There were ten-straight months of 10% plus employment in 1982-83. But the circumstances of those recessions were quite different from the coronavirus pandemic.
A man is defined by his contributions to society. That means his job and career for most men. In fact the common surname Cooper was given to immigrants in the early 20th century because their occupation was making barrels. The good news is that some men are simply furloughed and will have a job again when the smoke clears. Unfortunately that’s not the case for the majority. A survey by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce found that 43% of small businesses will not survive the crisis. Small businesses (those with 500 employees or fewer) account for 99.7% of U.S. employer firms. That means the writing is on the wall.

Any man with a little savings to invest and a garage for production can take advantage of this market need.

The flat-bed truck driving industry increased hiring by 976% in March, according to ZipRecruiter. Drivers average about $50,000 per year. The medical transportation industry increased hiring by 124% last month. The idea is to find something that fits your skill sets and satisfies a market need.
