Planetary retrogrades give the physical illusion of a backwards orbit around the sun. It is the opposite of prograde – the normal west-to-east movement of the planets in the night sky.

The phenomenon happens because a faster-moving planet catches up to a slower-moving one in a heliocentric (Sun-centered) solar system like ours. It’s similar to how runners appear to start in different positions on a track, with some ahead of others. That’s because the runners in the outer lanes would otherwise have to run a longer distance than those in the inner lanes.

Earth moves faster than Mars around the Sun, causing the retrograde illusion as we pass the Red Planet. The retrograde began on Wednesday, September 9 at around 5:22 p.m. Eastern Time. The “backwards” motion of Mars will continue through November 13. The Mars retrograde is shorter in duration than all the other planets and thus has astrological significance. All five outer planets (if you still believe Pluto is a planet) are in retrograde as we speak. But the inner (personal) planet retrogrades, particularly Mars, have a much more profound effect on our lives. It especially significant with certain astrological signs.

Zodiac and the retrograde

Mars is of course the God of War. There are many phases of war, with preparation and training perhaps being the most important. Well-trained, regimented warriors have the best chance of victory on the battlefield. The Mars retrograde is a time of self-discipline and planning versus taking direction action. It is an incubation period for most men. The Mars retrograde coincided with the United States gaining the upper hand during World War II. Meanwhile the Germans were losing both confidence and personnel. Thus the retrograde effects people differently.

Mars is the ruling planet for Aries. They are fully in-tune with the high levels of vigor and energy Mars provides. The retrograde is likely to make fire signs like Aries feel exhausted and discombobulated about everything from relationships to career. Now is the time for reflection, a time to slow down and gather yourself to come out of the retrograde with a better sense of your short and long-term goals.

Scorpios are also traditionally ruled by Mars. Now is not the time for impulsive actions. Like Aries, it’s a time for self-reflection and assessment to ensure a strong finish to 2020. Capricorns are recalling old memories that cause impulsive reactions with friends and loved ones. Don’t act on those feelings. Meditation and living in the moment are critical for you during the retrograde.

Alpha energy fluctuations

Mastery of the alpha brain wavelength mitigates and eliminates detrimental mindset fluctuations. Some men will be less enthusiastic during the retrograde. Others will have burning desires to generate and execute new and exciting endeavors. Conscious command means you have achieved the ability to control your alpha brain wavelength. You’ll maximize your state of consciousness whether it’s a time for calm or a call to arms. But now, again, is the time for most men to harness that energy until your Internal Monologue System (IMS) confirms your readiness to act.

The ALPHA by Prodigy Mindset™ Gym guides men to conscious command – control of mid-frequency brainwaves. The Mars retrograde is the perfect time to begin your first 21-day training cycle. Your alpha brain wavelength will pace you around that aforementioned track until you know the exact moment to shift from steady jog to full-on sprint from a mindset perspective.
