Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy are the two most-admired presidents in U.S. history, according to the most recent YouGov data. Both men are known for prioritizing civil rights and the greater good of mankind. Savvy historic types also understand how these men bravely challenged global hierarchies.

Lincoln-Kennedy legends

President Lincoln ordered the U.S. Treasury to print greenbacks to help fund the Union army in the U.S. Civil War. Meanwhile the Confederacy borrowed money from European bankers. President Kennedy signed Executive Order 11110 in June 4, 1963. It gave the U.S. Treasury the power to print debt-free currency in lieu of the Federal Reserve. It is no coincidence (among many speculated coincidences between the two) that both of these very courageous men were assassinated for challenging the money changers. But that is a subject matter for another time.

These men had another commonality as well – supportive wives. Jacqueline Kennedy is a pioneer on several levels in the role of First Lady. Mary Lincoln is far less known than Mrs. Kennedy. But she was equally as important to President Lincoln. JFK married Jackie in 1953 and also became a U.S. Senator that year. President Lincoln ended his run in the Illinois House of Representatives in 1842, the same year he married Mrs. Lincoln. He focused on his law practice, became a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, and parlayed that into the Presidency.

Could these men have been great without their influential better halves? Perhaps. But there is real science related to the proverb “behind every great man is a great woman.” The proverb is said to have originated from The Port Arthur News in 1946. A quarterback was speaking about a come back on the football field and how he’s “not a great man, but there’s a great woman behind me.” Statistics alone show the importance of women in men’s lives.

Men’s life expectancy and marriage

Average life expectancy for men in the United States is 75.1 years as of Q1 2020, according to the Centers for Disease Control. That was down from 76.3 years the previous year. But a 2019 Harvard Health study concluded that married men live longer. Married men have healthier hearts, are less likely to contract cancer, and are less likely to contract sexually transmitted diseases. So-called “modern families” do not count as being married.

Granted there is same-sex marriage in the United States and around the globe in the 21st century. Further, studies on these types of unions are considered taboo in mainstream education circles today. But there are plenty of data that point to the unhealthy nature of these types of unions. A 1998 study published in the peer-reviewed journal Psychological Reports found that homosexual activity decreases life expectancy by 20 to 30 years. Another study published in the International Journal of Epidemiology concluded that homosexual men’s life expectancy is 8 to 20 years less than all other men.

Great men can accomplish a lot in short lifespans. But a longer life means more opportunities to accomplish all your goals. A woman extends your life in most cases.

Alpha dating

This article is not a call to hitch up with the most convenient warm body. Not all relationships are created equal. A 2014 study by University of Copenhagen researchers found that a “nagging” wife shortens lifespans as well.

Dating is a bit of a minefield in 2021, particularly with the added barriers of COVID-19. Confidence, positivity, directness, and integrity breed good things in life. Existing relationships improve and strengthen, while opportunities at new relationships manifest for single guys. That’s why it’s so important to work on yourself, particularly your Internal Monologue System (IMS), as much as your career in these times.
